Large Sign Making Comparison

Vinyl sign cutters are often used by professional poster and billboard sign-making businesses to produce weather-resistant signs, posters, and billboards using self-colored adhesive-backed vinyl film that has a removable paper backing material.

Vinyl cutters use continuous lines to create objects and lettering. A cutter’s knife is mounted on ball bearings to allow the blade to rotate as the vinyl moves against the knife. Vinyl cutters are slower than other types of sign makers because the process of cutting continuous lines requires a long and deliberate mechanical motion.

Many of the top quality machines are slightly more difficult to operate. A knowledgeable and skilled sign maker will probably not have any problems, however, less skilled employees may find it difficult to operate. Training for such employees will have to be addressed.

The DuraLabel 9000 is a leader in the market of large format industrial printing because of its fast speeds, high quality 300 dpi printing and ease of use. It prints onto DuraLabel vinyl supplies up to 9” wide, which can be tiled together to form even larger signs. The DuraLabel 9000 requires little training to learn how to operate because it operates like any standard desktop printer. The DuraLabel 9000 connects to your PC with a USB cable and works with Windows operating systems, including XP. It is compatible with most common word processors such as Microsoft Word® and Excel®.

Although the DuraLabel 9000 is more effective for printing signs,  vinyl cutters are still used for precision cutting of graphics produced by wide-format label printers to create shaped stickers and window graphics.
