NC Explosion Causes Hundreds Of Job Loses
In Kinston, North Carolina, an explosion and fire at the West Pharmaceutical Services plant caused six deaths and dozens of injuries, not to mention hundreds of job losses. The facility produced rubber stoppers and other products for medical use. The fuel for the explosion was a fine plastic powder, which accumulated above a suspended ceiling over a manufacturing area at the plant and ignited.

OSHA New Alliance
It was announced that a new Alliance was signed between the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the American Pipeline Contractors Association (APCA). Under the Alliance, OSHA and APCA will work together to increase access for industry employees to safety and health information and outreach programs. Both organizations will develop and disseminate injury and hazard information at conferences and events, and through print and electronic media, including using OSHA's and APCA's Web sites.

OSHA Unveils Web Site To Prevent Hearing Loss
OSHA unveiled a new Web page designed to help prevent occupational hearing loss. The Noise and Hearing Conservation eTool features information on what is considered occupational noise and its potential health affects. It provides detailed guidance on how to properly evaluate noise exposure and what constitutes an effective hearing conservation program. The site also references OSHA noise exposure standards and employer responsibilities to protect workers.
